I have a 51 Plate Galaxy 1.9Tdi I have been experiencing problems with power loss.

 

When i am at around 3000 rpm in usualy 3rd 4th 5th or 6th i feel a slight pull and then i lose all acceleration, if i put my foot to the floor the engine revs creep up and the car gains speed very slowly. If i press the clutch in the engine revs normally

 

turning off and on the ignition clears the problem but it returns again fairly quickly any ideas on how to sort this would be greatly appreciated.

 

I have changed the MAF sensor but this did not rectify the problem.

I also have this power loss problem, I also get an exterior light warning come on when I start the car up ( the lights seem ok), this warning goes when i press the break!!!

 

I have asked loads of people about this problem and 90% of them say the MAF. The other 10% say break light sensor, which I thought sounds the best bet because of the warning light.

 

BUT, I also only get about 30 mpg which must be wong for a tdi !!! so some people say it must be the MAF.

 

I'm confussed, have you any idea what one I should fix?

 

Its going back to the dealer soon, for the 3rd time!!!

i have checked the brake light switch which appears to be O.K brake lights work ok and engine drops in revs when i press the brake pedal it doesn't seem to be the same kind of drop in power as when the above mentioned problem occurs

hi

unplug the maf sensor run around and if you still have the same symptoms then its the maf sensor,

Check the site for where you can get a genuine bosch one a lot cheaper then the Fraud Dealer

I would hazard a guess at either Turbo Control Solenoid or Turbo Pressure Sensor. Both of these have vacuum pipes connected which can become detached or leak.

Hello,

 

I was asking the same questions on the Seat Curpa.net discussion board and some helpful bloke pointed me in this direction! ;)

 

Having read through the treads on this and on the other board it seems that it could be either:

 

MAF

Brake Pedal Switch

Accelorator pedal position sensor

 

I have a limited mechanical knowledge... but it doesn't sound to me like the brake pedal switch would cause this problem (correct me if I'm wrong!). Unplugging the MAF makes no difference on mine, so i don't think it is that.

 

When i plug it into a fault code reader it gives me a code which basically says that the turbo is over boosting... i took it to my local Seat stealer and they told me i needed i new turbo which i got fitted (at great expense ;) ) but the fault code is exactly the same (double :lol: ). As i understand it the waste gate and all it's control sensors are built into the turbo, so all these have been changed with no difference.

 

That just leaves the accelorator pedal position sensor... has anyone else changed this and found that it cures the fault?

Not sure, as I don't have access to a MK II

 

Check all the small vacuum pipes coming from the turbo - follow them back...

 

Could be the solenoid is actually on the Turbo itself - unsure though....

 

The pressure sensor is called a TMAP sensor (Turbo Manifold Absolute Pressure) and is located in the pipework going to the intercooler at the top right hand of the engine.

 

I think basically if the ECU doesnt see the expected boost pressure within a certain range/time after it is demanded then it throws a fault and goes into limp home mode (which can be reset by ignition off).

 

Either the boost pressure is really wrong, due to sticky solenoid, or leaky vacuum. Or the signal from the TMAP is wrong (sensor or wiring).

 

I would check vacuum pipes as they often leak/collapse/get bunged up.

 

Maybe the inlet port of the TMAP is gunged up.

Right, an update to this problem....... ford dealer now has my Gal, Had it two days trying to diagnose the fault, First they wanted to change the MAF but i told them this had already been changed, but they tried a new one anyway, then they said they suspect the MAF wiring which they checked and found OK. they have now rang me to say they still can't find the problem and are now looking at the Turbo controls

 

they are charging me for all the time they are spending on the vehicle B) I can't see how it takes two days to diagnose a fault at my expense. I'm up to about

Just been contacted again and they are now waiting for a boost control solenoid and they will be fitting this tomorrow.........................

Ford Dealer has been on the phone again saying they cannot diagnose this fault and are basically giving up on it unless i pay them hourly rate to diagnose it which the guy said could run into thousands which i cannot afford I cannot believe that they have spent four days on the car and still cannot find the fault.

 

Ford customer relations aren't interested they told me to take it to another ford dealership, which means more money spent.

 

I am now waiting for VW to give me a call to see if they can help

 

 

Any more help from you guys would be appreciated

dave_m do you also get low mpg like me? I am lucky to get 35mpg on the motorway. 28-30 around town. My friends Galaxy never seems to go below 40mpg!!!

 

I am hoping mine is a simple MAF sensor change but your problem sounds the same as mine. I don't notice any problems when driving around town, it's a lot more noticable on the motorway.

3000 rpm then it's like a giant hand has got hold of the car and is pulling it back then letting go. The power has died completely once and I could not get over 50mph in 4th or 5th with my foot to the floor.

 

Does this sound like your problem? If it is I will ask fords exactly what they did to fix my turbo (assuming they do fix it) next week. I'll then let you know. :huh:

Have been on to Ford and told them they had misdiagnosed the fault and I am not paying for the time they took to do so...

 

Guy apologised and is putting their so called "master tech" on to it on Tues, no charge for the diagnostic or investigative work... I still think it's a T-MAP sesnor prob though..

Are your fault codes similar to mine?

P0101- MAF but this was probably stored when i was playing with the MAF

P1556-Charge Pressure Contr. Negative Deviation

P1549-Boost Pressure Contr.Valve Short to Ground

Seems to me like the diagnostics aren't picking up the actual faulty part but the fault is causing other components to register fault codes as they are not seeing what they want to see or the PCM is not controlling them properly, Mine is terrible now and the problem is happening every time i am between 3000 and 4000 rpm.

 

Let me know how you get on with any further diagnostics

Right an Update - A known faulty MAF arrived in the post for me today - many thanks Seatalhambra!!!

 

Anyway, swapped it and the car is now gutless, and still has the boost cutting out at 300 rpm in top.. So I thinks the MAF is ruled out as ok..

 

All things really seem to be pointing to the T-MAP sensor.....

 

Also I am gonna post this in the 3 similar threads that are going at the moment, as it's getting hard to keep up!! Can a mod possibly combine the threads??

I have a similar problem to your Galaxy although mine is an auto, i have tried the mass air flow sensor (
